Swilson in C-Bus

  1. I am not sure if the half black and white half color effect is working in the first image. It seems like it is trying too hard, when the image itself is strong. I like how the window is the same size and shape of the record- just rotated. There are a lot of other interesting lines as well that draw your eye around the image. I would be interested to see how it looks in b&w or color alone.

The second image is interesting with the reflection, but I would love to see some sort of meaning or narrative with this image. It seems interesting, and maybe do a few more that would make a series or include other details in the photograph that would create a story. (Maybe there is something that I am just missing!)

I think that you just thought that the third image was funny, and thus you put it on. If I were to comment on the technique of this picture I would probably say that the point of view seems a bit expected. That is, it seems to have been taken from around eye level at a sign slightly above the photographer. It would be cool to see it from above or dramatically below, or something less common.

  2. I think the second image is really cool and interesting to look at. First of all, Ray Ban sunglasses are awesome, so I think seeing that draws you in. Looking at it closer, the dust on the bottom of the frames is an interesting element since it fits in with the older/rustic look of the rest of the photo. I like the back left of the photo because it adds a greater depth and story to the photo–maybe this is where you could build off for that narration that Mariel was talking about.

  3. I really like the first image, and I think the muted colors help to evoke the gloomy mood for the viewer. The composition really works for me, too. I love the second image - the shadow created by the sunglasses is really cool because of the color in it that we don't usually see in shadows. If you lightened up the left hand side of the photo, it would probably say a lot more for the viewer. I agree that the last photo isn't too exciting, but I do like the lines created in it.
