My first assignment from Christy was to take a "simple, natural, expected" shot. I tried to think of normal things, and my first thought was brushing teeth so I went with it. My assignment from Torie was to play with shutter speed, which I played around with as well, but I didn't really like how it looked with this particular subject, so I didn't post any of the ones with a really slow speed.
(ps the yellow/redness is on purpose)
I really like the first and the last shots they seem like the most "expected." The color is an interesting way to break up the expectedness. you could have a better model though --Brian
ReplyDeleteI feel like the first and the last shots are interesting just because brushing your teeth seems like something intimate. I like how that's what you view as "expected" because that's not what I would've thought of at all, however routine-related it is.

Good job, Mariel! I like what you did with a everyday scene. I think the first photo is your strongest because of the focus, framing, and I love the bit of the light in the corner. The lighting on all of these makes it interesting, too.
ReplyDeleteI like your first and last photos because they are so close up, and I like that style of photography. It is an example of getting your point across without using text or being overt. You tell a little narrative. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I like how you organized your photos in the post. Your first and last photo are of the same thing but taken from a different perspective. It speaks to the power of point of view. I like the repetition with the last photo. ~Lena
ReplyDeletei like the first one and the last one...
ReplyDeletei think you could just have a triptych with photos of him brushing his teeth, focusing on different parts, because i think both of those images are pretty visually interesting.
the other two are okay as well, and they fit, but i wish the second one wasn't so out of focus.
i get that the yellowy tone is on purpose, which is kind of ironic because i think of brushing teeth as refreshing, clean, white, etc...and irony is somewhat in your style, but for this i almost wish that the colors were different...
good job though :)
